More info about

Royal Mail is a postal service company based in the United Kingdom. The company provides letter post services, parcel services, freight forwarding and third party logistics services. Royal Mail has traditionally been a public entity with the government owning all of the shares, but over the last years, the government has sold most of the shares. Royal Mail is still, however, required by law to deliver items of a specific size to any location within the United Kingdom at a set price.

Royal Mail customer service

On the Royal Mail website customers can find help mostly under the help and support tab at the top of the page. Here customers can search a problem or find contact information. Under the contacts tab customers can find phone numbers for the various departments. Take note of the opening and closing times!

For general inquiries and complaints, call 08457 950 950. The opening times are Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. You can also choose to complete an online form if your problem is maybe less urgent.

There is also a help center at the bottom of the page where customers can search through frequently asked questions.

The most common problem with Royal Mail is lost packages. If you think your package is lost you should double check the approximate delivery time. Don’t forget about delays during public holidays. You can also use the “services update” link to check if there are delays in your area. For this you will need the tracking number of your package. Often if the package needs a signature Royal Mail will leave it with a neighbor. If the package is too big for the mailbox, they will also then leave it with a neighbor.

The company promises to offer compensation for delayed first class mail if it still hasn’t arrived at its destination within 15 business days.

If the package is undeliverable then Royal Mail will hold it for up to 18 days at their delivery office. After 18 days they will check to see if there is a return address. If there is no return address they will then open the package to see if there is maybe a return address inside. If there is still no return address found they will then ship it to the National Returns Center in Belfast.

A second common complaint by customers is broken or damaged goods upon delivery. Royal Mail suggests that customers use secure packaging to avoid damages. They also recommend that customers use the postal code service on their website to make sure post codes are correctly written. This is helpful when sending something abroad as international addresses have rules of their own.
